"Lo que soy, es real."

“You remember everything.”

No, I don’t remember everything. That’s what a friend of mine got wrong about me. I just so happened to remember everything she said because what she said really mattered to me. Maybe what she said mattered a little too much to me, though. Like I said to her, I got carried away. I got distracted. I’m grateful that she’s a real friend, though. Or at least, I like to think that her words to me in regards to our friendship were real and will remain real. You can’t blame my reasons for simply hoping and not knowing anything for sure if you knew that I felt ostracized just recently. I know those actions were for very valid reasons, though.

Sleep

leave a comment

I’ve been able to sleep better lately. I suppose it’s a good thing. I mean the reason why I haven’t been able to sleep very much isn’t so much the ridiculousness that is balancing my work schedule and my personal life–rather it’s the fact that there have been so many petty problems in my life that have been haunting me and keeping me awake.

Being able to sleep means no burdens and no baggage and a clean conscience. To me, at least.

LOL. Before sleeping after work this past morning, my friend Lois posted an amazing video on YouTube, and after watching it I proceeded to watch this YouTube user’s entire video library. She’s HILARIOUS…if you’re Filipino. :P

Visual Bible

Sometimes I feel like an incompetent photographer. But I’ve had some pretty great projects in mind that I should endeavor to continue. For example, this Visual Bible project in which I had the idea of associating the Scriptures with the beauty I find in life and capture with my camera. Click on the photos and you’ll be brought to my Flickr, at which point you can click on the photo again to view a larger size:

Visual Bible

John 4:14. I took this at a place called Reynolds Gully about an hour away from Rochester, New York in 2009.

Visual Bible

Genesis 1:16. I used a Canon EOS 5D Mark II, two Canon 2x EF Extenders, and a Canon EF 600mm lens, which made for a 2400mm focal length. Taken at a parking lot at the Rochester Institute of Technology in 2009.

Visual Bible

1 Corinthians 13:8. I took this in Long Island one morning before I went to the Philippines in 2010 with my Canon EOS 50D and an 18-200 Sigma lens.

Visual Bible

Isaiah 48:17-18. This was taken with a Canon EOS 5D and my Canon EF 17-40mm f/4L lens. It features the sunset, the moon, and the Delaware Memorial Bridge from the New Jersey side.

So, every now and then you may find new additions to this project. Stay tuned. :)

In Favor of Instagram

From a professional wedding photographer’s blog:

What ever happened to full dynamic range these days? The Internet is polluted with cheap, affordable digital photography by a new generation that started a trend of a fabricated nostalgic imitation mixed with happy-go-lucky high-key compositions. Anyone with Instagram can create a flattering two toned image that lacks so much dynamic range and texture that even you can look like a super model with a wide angle lens – photography skills need not apply.

I thought I was for this professional wedding photographer’s opinion, but now I’m not. My response:

Full dynamic range lies with photographs taken today in which professional photographers put hours of editing into what they capture, not to mention the difficult decision-making they have to make when setting exposures on their multi-thousand-dollar camera bodies upon taking their photographs.

The Internet is polluted. Don’t you think you should end your sentence there?

Instagram is for fun–and it is marketed in the sense that you deem a disgrace to photography–Instagram prides itself on what you refer to as a trend of “a fabricated nostalgic imitation mixed with happy-go-lucky high-key compositions.”

You have to give them credit, don’t you think? I mean, it’s not everyday someone decides to write an application that is now worth a billion dollars thanks to Facebook. Not to mention the fact that the application is SO simple and easy to use–it applies a filter using matrix algebra to your photograph, applies a border depending on the filter you select to your photograph, and applies a simple gaussian blur anywhere on your photograph.

Let’s face the facts–the people that use it don’t care about dynamic range or luminosity. And that’s what I WASN’T thinking about when I agreed with you at one point a few months back.

All in all, Instagram’s cool. :) In my opinion, anyway.

I’ll post photos I put on Instagram here bi-weekly. :)

Untitled

Franelli’s on the bottom-left of this two-year-old photograph. She e-mailed it to me just a few days ago and I decided to Instagram it.

I thought this past weekend during the Circuit Assembly was our first time meeting each other, however, we remembered that when I first came into the truth, my Kuya Tolits–sitting directly across from me in the photograph–took me to the 2010 District Convention and a bunch of us had dinner at Olive Garden, and that’s when we first met. Blew my mind! :P It’s also really funny how I’m sitting next to JonVal and that I’m wearing purple. Typical. :)

Untitled

This is the view I have at work, except earlier this week it rained really badly. Can you imagine? :P

Untitled

JonVal, me, and Josh. We sorted out our problems, which is good, seeing as how I live with these guys and they ARE pretty dear to me despite what’s happened.

Untitled

My new friend Arnwell and me with the District Overseer, John David Magnison. I don’t know how to spell his last name but his first and middle name are the same as mine. He said I could take his place when he moves to another district! :P Ugh, I miss him already. Working with him in field service was wonderful. Quite the experience. :)

Untitled

Arnwell, me, Brianna, Ate Janai, and Franelli. I thought all of them were new friends. Turns out I met Ate Janai and Franelli already. Talk about a reunion!

Untitled

I love this guy. ‘Nuff said.

Untitled

We went to Mitsuwa in Edgewater, New Jersey to preach to the Japanese. It was fun! Can you believe these Hello Kitty things are $220, though?

Inside Stanley Theatre

This website has been used in so many different ways since I acquired it in August 2007. It’s been used as a test website for when I was really big into web development, it’s been used as a mock photography business website for one of my photography classes in college, it’s been used solely for web space and file sharing, and it’s been used as a blog.

Today, however, I decided to keep this website simple and easy to maintain by using it as a blog once again. The top-right of this page says “Lo que soy, es real.” That’s one of Demi Lovato’s songs, and translated from Spanish it means “this is me, this is real.” That’s what this blog will be about–me–my life through text and photos. And how much more real can you get than a photograph?

The shots both above and below were taken at Stanley Theatre following a two-day circuit assembly, themed “Let God’s Name Be Sanctified” based on Matthew 6:9.
